Maison&Objet this year true to its theme of ‘Enjoy: in quest of pleasures’ was a riot, a joyful one at that. Awash with colours, extravagance, whimsy and humour, it showed how design could indeed delight. With inspiration from classic styles seen from iconic brands like Karl Lagerfeld to signature prints from Roberto Cavalli to eclectic shapes that borrowed from the jungle world from Doing Goods, or a Disney-like wonder world by Kelly Hoppen for Leblon Delienne, the atmosphere was equal parts theatrical and chic. But most importantly, it was a journey of exploration and exaltation, a breaking free of the austerity that was in response to a world in crisis — with an aim to rediscover what celebration and fantasy look like in the world of design.
