1 PERFECT BALANCE
Use textiles to bring cosiness to a small cloakroom. In this comforting understairs space, designer Beata Heuman has gone all in with walls and treads covered in her owndesign cotton linen, which is paperbacked so that it can be applied like regular wallpaper. A crisp white vintage cotton curtain under the basin continues the textile journey and delivers a visual rest from the floor-to-ceiling pattern. Willow linen wallpaper in Ink, £150lin m, Shoppa by Beata Heuman.
2 EMBRACE THE DARK
Windowless cloakroom? Don’t fight the lack of light. ‘Dark shades are a great way to deal with cloakrooms that have little or no natural light. The key is to keep the palette simple but strong,’ says Kate Cox, interior designer, HÁM Interiors. ‘Here, we opted for a rich red. With its dark undertones, it takes a room from drab to dramatic and enlivened.’ Try the Bamboo mirror, from £645, Studio HÁM. Walls in Picture Gallery Red estate emulsion, £52 for 2.5ltr, Farrow & Ball. Artwork from a selection at Trilogie Antiques. Project by HÁM Interiors.
