Beach Town Bungalow
Cottages and Bungalows
|June - July 2024
While this 1922 Craftsman embodies the character and charm of a bygone era, its owner has found creative ways to bring it into the present while honoring its past.
If you live in an older home-or hope to one dayyou are likely in love with their architectural details and period charm. However, you may wonder how you can update their typically smaller rooms without sacrificing any of their built-in beauty. Jackie Loughery, who lives in this 1922 Craftsman bungalow rooted in Long Beach, California's Historic District, has opened its stylish new front door for you to take a house tour to see how she managed to seamlessly blend room elements that were added 100 years apart.
"I have always loved older homes and their charm," Jackie says. "The windows and built-ins attracted me the most to this home. I will say, it takes a certain amount of appreciation to live in a historical home because there is always something that needs to be fixed!" Jackie says a series of serendipitous events makes her think fate had a hand in connecting her with her dream home."I was living in Hawaii at the time and was planning to move back to Long Beach. I had seen the home on the market for several months and immediately fell in love with all of the windows and location," she explains. "The front of the home has charming 1920s French three-panel windows, and they are my absolute favorite thing about the home. I moved home several months later and it was still on the market. The very evening I landed at the airport I had my realtor meet me at the home for a night showing. I feel as though this house was meant to be mine and it was waiting for me!"
