The heritage grapes South Africa's wine industry was built on and the stories they imbue

THE WORKHORSE

Since the 1600s, Chenin Blanc has been used for everything from table wines to brandy. In recent decades, a renewed focus on old vines and site expression has unlocked its potential for producing fine wines. Because of its prolific history, South Africa has the world's most plantings of this variety. Kumusha, owned by Zimbabwean-born sommelier Tinashe Nyamudoka, means 'your roots' in Shona — echoeing the sentiment. And the Kumusha Chenin Blanc 2024 certainly brings it home. @kumushawines
