White wonderland

Cambo Gardens, Fife, is the home of a National Collection of snowdrops. There are over 200 varieties at Cambo thanks to Lady Magdalen Erskine, who spent many years of the 1930s encouraging their proliferation and spending hours each year with her eight children digging and distributing the snowdrops across the 70 acres of woodland. Use the markers throughout the winter garden and snowdrop woodland to discover your next favourite variety – and if you follow the snowdrops down to the coastal path there are wonderful views out to sea.

Spring to life

At Gilbert White’s House and Garden, Hampshire, thousands of snowdrops cover the 17-acre meadow as spring approaches. Beyond the meadow, managed under a stewardship agreement with Natural England, discover many garden features described in the writing of 18th-century naturalist Gilbert White. There is significant history in this garden, from the original sundial and a fruit wall to the Great Oak, planted almost 300 years ago.
