The Genesis of FORESTIS

FORESTIS opened its doors on July 20, 2020, but its origins trace back to the early 20th century. In 1912, during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, a site was sought for a sanatorium in the South Tyrolean mountains. The Ploseberg, with its pure spring water, excellent air quality, mild climate, and abundant sunshine, was deemed ideal. Renowned architect Otto Wagner was commissioned to design the sanatorium, but the outbreak of war interrupted these plans. A wooden and stone building with two wings was completed instead, serving as a retreat for clergy until the 1950s.

In 2000, South Tyrolean hotelier Alois Hinteregger discovered the then-overgrown building. Recognizing its potential, his family purchased and renovated the property, reopening it as a hotel in 2010. A decade later, Alois's son Stefan and his partner Teresa Unterthiner reimagined the property as FORESTIS, a retreat that celebrates the natural beauty and tranquility of the region.
