Year after year, the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) gets bigger and better; there’s more participation of big names, more visitors and more sales. This year too was, the show was a big hit, with the focus being on emeralds. In fact, the theme was ‘Emerald...Your Stone, Your Story’.
The event was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Diya Kumari. In her address, she said, “Jaipur is synonymous with jewellery and JJS has become a much-awaited annual event on the calendar. The jewellery industry is a great support to the economy as it provides employment and gives jobs to the people. The industry provides direct employment to two lakh people. The jewellery industry also greatly boosts tourism and plays a big role in repeat tourism, as people come to Jaipur from across the globe to buy jewellery.”
This year, the Guest of Honour was Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “2023 has been a challenging year for the gems and jewellery industry owing to the geopolitical concerns and economic downturn. However, the industry has bounced back and is experiencing a gradual but significant rise. The GJEPC and jewellers are jointly taking various initiatives, such as the diamond bourse in Surat, and the upcoming one in Jaipur, to make India a key global hub in this sector.”
JJS Honorary Secretary Rajiv Jain spoke about how JJS has evolved over the years. He said, “From a mere 67 booths in 2003, there are over 1100 booths this year.”
The Chairman of National Gems and Jewellery Council of India, Pramod Derewala, said that the gem and jewellery industry of Jaipur is making significant contributions to the economy of the state, as well as the country, by way of foreign exchange earnings, tax revenue and employment generation.
