AMANDA REDMAN on playing the sleuthing cleric's opinionated mum in the whodunnit

Mother SUPERIOR!

MURDER BEFORE EVENSONG LAST ONE TUE, 9PM, 5 DRAMA

Questions of faith and justice abound in the fictional Midlands village of Champton as 5's 1980s-set mystery Murder Before Evensong reaches its conclusion this week.

Having put all the clues together, Canon Daniel Clement (Matthew Lewis) sets a trap to catch the killer of local historian Anthony Bowness, but the effect of the horrific crime leaves a lasting impact on the cleric, and only his mother Audrey (Amanda Redman) can pull him back from a crisis of faith. The two have rarely seen eye to eye since she moved into the vicarage after losing her home, but can this experience finally heal the rift between them? TV Times joined Amanda, 68, for an exclusive interview to find out more...

Audrey proves to be an invaluable support to Daniel in the finale. Do you think this could be a breakthrough for mother and son?

The thing is, there's a deep love between the two of them, but they're very alike, and that's why they clash. Audrey doesn't have a lot of time for the church, but she sees that's what Daniel's passion is, and I think they start to understand each other a little more. Every time they've got to a difficult topic about their past lives together, they've avoided it, but this time they actually address that, which is great.

imageDaniel and Audrey have a fantastically complex relationship. What was it like developing that with Matthew?
