Debbie drops a bombshell on Carl as she braces herself for prison

There are shades of EastEnders' Kat and Zoe on the cobbles this week as Debbie Webster finally admits to Carl that, rather than being his big sister, she is, in fact, his mum.

Debs drops her bombshell ahead of her sentencing for the dangerous-driving offences she was charged with after the Pennines car crash. She has pleaded guilty, although she's well aware that Carl was at the wheel when their motor ploughed into the minibus and he dragged her lifeless body into the driver's seat.

'She thinks that Carl is like he is because of her - that she made him a bad person because she didn't bring him up,' explains actor Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie.

'So she thinks, "I'm going to take all this, because it's my fault."'
