CONLETH HILL and RUSSELL TOVEY on the shocking police killing of an innocent man on the London Underground

Fatal MISTAKE

SUSPECT: THE SHOOTING OF JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES
FROM WED 30 APRIL, DISNEY+ DRAMA

It's almost 20 years since the police shot dead Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes on 22 July 2005 at London's Stockwell Underground station after he was wrongly believed to be a terrorist.

Now, in a drama based on real events, Disney+'s harrowing four-part series Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, penned by acclaimed writer Jeff Pope (Archie), explores the lead-up to the tragedy and its aftermath.

It begins with the investigation into the 7/7 suicide bombings on the capital's transport system, and then the failed attacks by another terrorist cell on 21 July. The police manhunt for this second group of perpetrators leads to a south London block of flats where Jean Charles (Edison Alcaide) also lives. But the innocent 27-year-old is misidentified as a suspect and subsequently followed to the Tube, where he is killed by firearms officers.
