There have been many screen versions of the works of celebrated children's author Roald Dahl, most notably Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach. But his darkly humorous story The Twits has never been adapted – until now.

Netflix's new animated film The Twits is based on Dahl's classic 1980 novel and revolves around 'the meanest, smelliest, nastiest people in the world' - Jim Twit (voiced by Benidorm's Johnny Vegas) and his wife Credenza (The Americans' Margo Martindale)- who love playing tricks on each other and hating other people.

After their amusement park, Twitlandia, is shut down for being too disgusting and dangerous, the Twits take revenge on the town. Two brave orphans, Beesha (Never Have I Ever's Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Bubsy (Ryan Lopez), and magical monkeys, Mary and Marty Muggle-Wump (Lady in the Lake's Natalie Portman and Veep's Timothy Simons), then realise they must become as tricky as the Twits in order to save the day.
