Sofía Vergara seemed to be living la dolce vita. While vacationing recently in Italy, the Modern Family star shared an inside look at her fabulous getaway with frequent Instagram posts. There she was relaxing on a boat with a friend at La Conca del Sogno beach club or about to enjoy some coffee on a balcony overlooking the Amalfi Coast. She toured the historic Villa Rufolo in the town of Ravello and—clad in an eye-catching red dress— rang in her 51st birthday with a sparkler-topped cake as a group of revelers serenaded her.

But there were two indications that something was amiss: the absence of her husband of seven years, Joe Manganiello, and a cryptic caption she included with a July 15 carousel of photos. “When life gives u lemons,” she wrote, “u come to Italy to squeeze them.”

It made more sense two days later when the America’s Got Talent judge and her Magic Mike star husband, 46, announced they were splitting up. “We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said in a statement to Page Six, adding that they still “love and care for one another very much.” That “difficult decision” has been on the horizon for a while, a source close to Vergara tells People: “They have been growing apart for some time now and tried to resolve things, but they are focused on different areas of their lives.”
