MAKING A SPLASH AS THE HOST OF DISCOVERY CHANNEL'S ANNUAL EVENT, THE AQUAMAN ACTOR SAYS HIS LIFE IS 'AWESOME' RIGHT NOW

Jason Momoa's Deep Dive

IT'S SHARK WEEK!

It’s a bit before 10 a.m. on a sunny July morning in Tahiti, and Jason Momoa is gushing about the “f---ing amazing” view from his bungalow. In the South Pacific with family on what he calls a “much needed” vacation after wrapping his upcoming Apple TV+ series Chief of War, the actor pans his phone to give People a glimpse of the crystal blue waters—which happen to be home to some blacktip sharks. Far from freaked out, Momoa thinks it’s, well, fin-tastic. “I woke up to one swimming around yesterday,” he says with more than a hint of enthusiasm in his voice, “and I’m going swimming with them today.”

The ocean predators are a big part of the Aquaman star’s life lately. The Hawaii native and environmentalist, 43, serves as host of Discovery Channel’s 2023 Shark Week (premiering July 23), the network’s annual documentary extravaganza showcasing the beauty and brutality of the magnificent creatures. Momoa introduces each special and in some cases interviews experts involved, like surfer and shark-attack survivor Mike Coots.
