NICOLE! GEORGE! DENZEL! THE GREAT WHITE WAY HAS NEVER BEEN SO STAR-STUDDED. HERE ARE THE PERFORMANCES EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT
NICOLE SCHERZINGER IN SUNSET BLVD.
After more than 24 years honing her talents, the former Pussycat Dolls star made her Broadway debut as Norma Desmond in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. Taking the role as the fictional faded film star desperate for a comeback “has changed my life,” says Scherzinger, 46, who was nominated for a Tony Award.
ELECTRIC COSTARS Tom Francis plays Joe Gillis, a screenwriter drawn into Norma's orbit. "Nicole's just the most generous soul," he tells People.“I always had so much inside of me that I felt like people didn’t see. It just feels good now to be able to share that with the world,” she tells People.
Lloyd’s version strips away all the theatrical grandeur of Sunset Blvd.’s past and leaves Scherzinger barefoot, in only a simple black slip and covered in blood by the time she takes her bow. The production (which wraps July 13) has not been easy, Scherzinger admits. “It’s a happy tired—a fulfilled exhaustion.”
DENZEL WASHINGTON & JAKE GYLLENHAAL IN OTHELLOThe actors' rendition is the first time Shakespeare's twisted tale of jealousy has been on Broadway in more than 40 years. “I've worked my whole career for this moment,” said Gyllenhaal. “Me too,” added Washington.
