Parul Karn speaks to health experts to understand the signs of heart conditions in women, how to prevent heart attacks, and what can be done about them
There are many things going on in this world and in your life — so many to-do lists, so many milestones to reach. Many goals, many experiences yet to be had. Make more money, save more money. Buy a new house, take care of your loved ones. As women in 2025, we are ambitious, we want everything, and we deserve everything. But first things first — your health. With good health, you will be able to better appreciate the beauty and the nuances of the world; without it, nothing matters. Among many other major health issues, heart attacks come suddenly and can cost you the one thing that matters the most - your life. That's why it's important to read the signs of the heart, which differ between men and women. Let's uncover the major things we need to know to take care of our hearts.
HEART CONDITIONS IN WOMEN: WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women worldwide, yet its symptoms are often overlooked or mistaken for less serious conditions. Unlike men, who commonly experience crushing chest pain, women often present with subtler, atypical symptoms that can go unrecognised. Dr Bhushan Bari, Consultant Cardiologist - Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, points out the early warning signs that are crucial for early detection and treatment.
Unusual FATIGUEExtreme tiredness that isn’t relieved by rest can be an early sign of heart trouble. If you find yourself exhausted after simple activities or feeling fatigued without a clear reason, it could be a red flag.
SHORTNESS OF BREATH
Feeling winded after minimal exertion or struggling to catch your breath while at rest could indicate an underlying heart issue. This can sometimes be mistaken for anxiety or respiratory problems.
