What to expect from Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone

Apple will celebrate the iPhone's 20th anniversary when the 'iPhone 19' launches in 2027, and already we've seen plenty of leaks and rumours supposedly leaking out of Apple's top-secret labs and onto the web. While we can't know for sure what's coming our way, we can at least round up what's been reported so far to see what we make of it.

One of the most prominent rumours is that the upcoming iPhone 19 will feature an all-screen design. That means no Dynamic Island, no bezels, and curved glass edges on the sides. This is a look that Apple has apparently been working on for many years, with the technology potentially finally ready in a couple of years' time.

In order to eliminate the Dynamic Island, Apple will need to embed elements like the Face ID sensor and front-facing camera underneath the display (the other option would be to return to Touch ID, but that seems highly unlikely).

However, it doesn't look like Apple will make the leap to an all-screen iPhone in one go - there could be a step or two in between. Here, the reports diverge. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, for instance, believes that next year's iPhone 18 models will come with a narrower Dynamic Island, paving the way for the all-screen iPhone 19.

Wayne Ma of The Information, on the other hand, says that the iPhone 18 Pro will have a small hole in the top-left corner of the screen for the front-facing camera, with everything else buried under the display.
