Although Sangeeta tried to stop Sapna from sucking her thumb, she failed to notice that Sapna's preference for her left hand extended beyond thumb-sucking.
When Sapna grew older and started going to school, she used her left hand to write.
Sangeeta found it odd. She tried to make Sapna stop writing with her left hand and switch to the right hand. When Sapna could not do this, she complained to Sapna's father, Rakesh who didn't see this as a problem.
He explained to Sangeeta that this was not a flaw to worry about. "A lot of people are left-handed. And not just ordinary people, there have been great personalities who have accomplished many great things despite of doing everything with their left hand. For example, US President Barack Obama, batsman Vinod Kambli and scientist Albert Einstein, and many other sportspersons are left-handed. You should not worry about it. Sapna can use her left hand just like how we use our right hand."
Sangeeta tried, but she struggled until she finally understood that Sapna's lefthandedness was natural. She understood that it should not be changed.
