Why Princess Kate and Prince William kept Prince Harry in the dark about her devastating cancer diagnosis

Her announcement sent shock-waves around the world. “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family,” Princess Kate shared in an emotional March 22 video, after spending three months out of the public eye while recuperating from major abdominal surgery. “At the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”

It was around 7 a.m. more than 5,000 miles away in Montecito, Calif., when her video was posted — and Prince Harry learned about her condition like everyone else. “He and Meghan were completely blindsided by the news,” says a source. The prince had just visited London on Feb. 6 to see his father, Charles, who had also revealed he was being treated for cancer. “At the time, he knew Kate had been in surgery, but Harry had no idea how bad it was.”
