On a sprawling and isolated sheep station in the South Australian outback, a nightmare scenario is unfolding for a family after a sweet young boy with a head full of blond curls vanished without a trace.

Augustus “Gus” Lamont was playing outside his family’s farmhouse on September 27 when his grandmother went inside. When she came back out 30 minutes later, the 4-year-old was gone and has not been seen since.

Gus was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, boots, a hat and long pants when he disappeared. No sign of him has been found despite extensive ground and air sweeps conducted in the scorching heat by the police, SES volunteers, the military, trackers and local property owners. A footprint that once offered hope has been discarded as irrelevant and not his.

Sadly, the fourth search by officials, which focused on six mine shafts in the vicinity where little Gus went missing, was called off a day early by authorities on November 26.
