Women with poor lifestyle choices pay higher price

HEART HEALTH FAVORS MEN!

THE lifestyle habits that are linked to heart disease — diet, exercise, smoking — appear to have twice the impact on cardiovascular health risk for women compared to men, according to Canadian researchers.

Other factors that raise the chances of cardiovascular disease include poor sleep, and high body mass index, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

"For the same level of health, our study shows that the increase in risk [related to each factor] is higher in women than in men — it's not one size fits all," says Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's Dr. Maneesh Sud.
