Harrison Ford on why he isn't ready to retire, his enduring love of acting and what makes him angry

- ADAM STONE

MODERN MARVEL

Harrison Ford is quite the marvel. Aged 82, the Hollywood legend is still going strong – and he is now making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with new superhero film Captain America: Brave New World.

The A-list star, best known for his performances as Han Solo in Star Wars and as Indiana Jones, has taken over the late William Hurt’s role as Thaddeus E “Thunderbolt” Ross, who is elected US President but is later transformed into the monstrous Red Hulk.

Responding to the suggestion that the character is based on President Donald Trump, Harrison says: “That’s for people to make that comparison if they want to. That wasn’t our intention.

“People will bring their own experience to the movie, but there was not a deliberate attempt to make a political statement in any way.”

The Hulk is known for the rage that triggers his transformation, so how did this Chicago-born family man get into character?

“I didn’t get angry; I just got a lot of instruction from our director on what it means to become a Red Hulk and how I needed to behave, because it was all new to me,” he says. “But it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it. I didn’t even have to work out. They did all that for me.”
