When compared with serums and lipsticks, bronzer and fragrance, scalp care isn't the sexiest of categories in the beauty world. But if you want the glossy, healthy hair of your dreams, it's an area you can't ignore - and it seems we're taking notice of this previously neglected element of our haircare routine.

Monthly searches for scalp serum have increased 99% year on year, with an average of 12,870 searches per month - likely set to rise as the chillier weather sets in and our scalps start to play up.

“Cold weather and indoor heating strip moisture from the scalp, leading to dryness, tightness and flaking,” says the dermatologist Nora Jafaar. She adds: “Reduced humidity also means the scalp barrier becomes more fragile, while wearing hats can further trap sweat and oil, creating imbalance and irritation.”
