MARITIME SUPPLIERS UNDER SCRUTINY AS CYBER RISKS SPIKE

In a significant development for maritime procurement, more than a quarter of maritime parts and service suppliers have been identified as having high or very-high cyber vulnerabilities, according to new data from Achilles Network, a global leader in supply chain risk and performance management.

The survey, which evaluated more than 1,000 global suppliers as part of a 12-month review covering environmental, social, governance, and cyber-related criteria, revealed that 28 per cent of the assessed suppliers presented high to very-high levels of cyber risk—raising concerns at a time when critical vessel systems, cargo management processes and port operations are increasingly dependent on digital infrastructure.

Additionally, more than half of the suppliers reviewed were found to lack third-party assured anti-bribery frameworks, public liability insurance or formal information security policies, indicating that several vendors supporting the maritime value chain may still be operating without baseline governance safeguards.
