COMPLIANCE, VOLATILITY TO DEFINE FY27 FOR FREIGHT SECTOR: REPORT
Logistics & SCM
|May 2026
The year is expected to offer emerging opportunities for organised and technology-driven players freight forwarders and customs brokers during the year.
-
While uncertainty remains a dominant theme for the future, the outlook suggests that organised and technology-driven players will be best positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities and navigate structural challenges.
According to a recent industry outlook by BoxyAI, the coming financial year FY27 is poised to be a defining phase for India's freight forwarding and customs broking industry, as evolving global trade dynamics, regulatory tightening and digital transformation reshape the competitive landscape.
MARKET VOLATILITY
The report highlighted that freight forwarders and customs brokers in India are likely to experience a year marked by heightened compliance requirements, increased reliance on data-driven decision-making and persistent market volatility in FY27. These changes reflect a broader shift in the logistics ecosystem, where agility, transparency and technological integration are becoming essential rather than optional.
Despite macroeconomic headwinds, the sector is expected to maintain a growth trajectory, albeit with pressure on profit margins. Fluctuating freight rates, geopolitical uncertainties and rising operational costs are likely to constrain profitability. At the same time, demand patterns across industries are becoming more uneven.
High-growth segments such as electronics, engineering goods, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, defence equipment and e-commerce exports are expected to drive volumes. In contrast, traditional sectors like textiles and other low-margin commodities may face inconsistent demand due to global consumption trends and pricing pressures.
