In the KwaMashu township, north of Durban, KZN Premier Nomusa DubeNcube led the launch of the Township Agriculture Programme, an initiative designed to ensure food accessibility and security through innovative techniques.
The programme's objective is to maximise food production in small spaces to promote a healthy ecosystem and increase biodiversity in urban areas.
It also seeks to empower women, support child-headed households, those living with disabilities, and the youth.
An amount of R6 million had already been set aside to assist township farmers to start their crop and animal projects.
