Red meat farmers mark progress at farmers' day

The National Livestock Farmers’ Association of South Africa (NaLFA-SA), a coalition of black farmer associations in the red meat industry, hosted a farmers’ day in Mboya Location in Mbhashe Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape to showcase progress in livestock farming, and call for continued government and industry support to transform communal farming into a commercial force.
“Over the past 16 years, the Department of Agriculture has supported farmers in the Mbhashe area with high-quality livestock, including bulls, rams and bucks.
“Today, the farmers have invited me to showcase their progress, celebrate their strides and point me to areas [in need of] improvement,” Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture Nonceba Kontsiwe told Farmer’s Weekly.
She added that one of the key projects celebrated on the day was the Mboya Red Meat Project, established in 2023.
