Pupils shine as EduPlant finals winners are announced

Pressing global challenges of climate change, food sovereignty, and ecological conservation are addressed through the EduPlant competition, writes Jyothi Laldas.
Thirteen schools across South Africa received honours from Food & Trees for Africa, in partnership with Tiger Brands, after being crowned champions of the EduPlant finals competition.
Driven by a consortium of educators, environmentalists, and community leaders, the EduPlant Programme seeks to address the pressing global challenges of climate change, food sovereignty and ecological conservation.
Placing sustainability at the heart of its educational approach, the programme aims to empower learners and communities to tackle food insecurity and malnutrition.
Every two years the EduPlant Programme works with 300 underresourced schools in South Africa through the school curriculum to develop and grow school food gardens to add nutritional value to every meal served under the National Schools Nutrition Programme.
The EduPlant finals competition recognises and reward the best efforts in nurturing school permaculture food gardens within the EduPlant community.
