Botswana promises support to SADC in FMD fight

Botswanan President Eric Masisi has made a commitment to support other countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the fight against foot and-mouth disease (FMD).
Speaking at that county's recent National Agricultural Show, Masisi said FMD had negatively affected the SADC region, with almost all the countries surrounding Botswana experiencing outbreaks.
He added that after a two-year respite, an outbreak of the disease had been reported in the north-eastern part of Botswana.
"I've met with my counterpart in Zimbabwe to come up with a strategy to combat FMD. However, a long-term strategy is being developed that will not only assist Botswana to combat the disease, but will also benefit the whole region."
