The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) recently had its National Dairyman Awards ceremony at Groot Phesantekraal, near Durbanville, in the Western Cape. The competition, which has been running since 2003, acknowledges South Africa’s most outstanding achievers in breeding genetically superior animals, using performance recording and testing as tools.
Rhodes Food Group (RFG), near Simondium in the Western Cape, won the National Dairyman of the Year award, while JJ Nel Familie Trust, near Ladysmith, also in the Western Cape, won the Medium-Scale, and Gugulumuzi Ngcobo from Donnybrook in KwaZulu-Natal won the Small-Scale Dairyman of the Year Award. He was unable to attend the event, as he was too busy on his farm.
