There is something about aviation that seems to tickle people in South Asia ever so often.

The two latest examples of this are the setting up of Air Kerala (an ultra-low-cost airline backed by UAE-based investors, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) airline code ‘KD’. The airline hopes to get its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), by the end of June.

The airline’s Dubai-based founder and Chairman, Afi Ahmed, went ballistic with his emotions. “For us, ‘KD’ stands for ‘Kerala Dream,’ Ahmed was quoted telling the media and added, “While for non-Keralites, it could mean ‘Kerala to Dubai’ or ‘Kerala to Doha’
