AIR INDIA AND IOC TAKE OFF WITH GREEN FUEL

September 2025

India's aviation sector is entering a transformative phase with Air India and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) inking an MOU for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), marking the first such agreement in the country.

AIR INDIA AND IOC TAKE OFF WITH GREEN FUEL

The pact comes close on the heels of the IOC securing international certification to produce SAF from an unlikely source, used cooking oil, at its Panipat refinery. For an industry often under fire for its soaring carbon footprint, India is taking the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) very seriously

IOC recently achieved a first for India, international certification to produce SAF from used cooking oil at its Panipat refinery. This milestone makes large-scale production possible, opening avenues to turn waste oil from hotels and restaurants into jet fuel. Air India is the first customer.
