War, Oil & Air India's Long Game
There are difficult years in aviation, and then there are years that test whether an airline truly deserves to survive. For Air India, 2026 is becoming exactly that moment. War in West Asia, soaring oil prices, fractured air corridors, a catastrophic accident, and delayed aircraft deliveries have combined to create one of the harshest operating environments in the airline's modern history. The result is a reported 22,000 crore loss for FY26 a figure that would shake even the strongest balance sheet. Yet, amid the turbulence, Air India is pressing ahead with the boldest transformation in its modern history. Whether reinvention can outpace adversity and whether it can do so without a leader who built the case for it is the question that now defines the airline, reports TIRTHANKAR GHOSH.
