RETHINKING HEALTHCARE SPACES

Many believe that our health and well-being should be as significant a priority as economic growth. Research suggests that the traditional M emphasis on GDP can lead to economic expansion at the expense of environmental sustainability and the quality of life, with the associated negative impacts frequently overlooked. Leading economists have begun advocating for a broader perspective that looks beyond GDP and adopt well-being indicators as a measure of progress. In this context, designers, master planners and engineers play a crucial role in shaping environments that support health and well-being, whether through the thoughtful incorporation of innovative design solutions that promote healing and sustained wellness.

Leading the way, Dubai recently launched the Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which places resident well-being at the forefront of Dubai's development agenda. This comprehensive, multiphased strategy, spanning 2024 to 2033, includes over 200 projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the city. Among the key features of this strategy are significant expansions in recreational spaces and socialisation opportunities.
