Merck's electronics business is committed to advancing digital living and at the heart of these strides are Semiconductors.

Pioneering India's Semiconductor Revolution with Merck Electronics

The semiconductor industry is evolving rapidly, with high-quality materials becoming the lifeblood of advanced manufacturing. However, the gap between India's current practices and the stringent requirements of modern semiconductor manufacturing is vast. During an interaction with Vidushi, Anand Nambiar, Chief Commercial Officer, Merck Electronics discussed their contributions to India's growing semiconductor and electronics sectors, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and strategic partnerships.

Can you give a brief overview of Merck’s electronics division and its global impact, particularly in India?

The Electronics business of Merck is all about unlocking next-generation chips with our material intelligence. Globally, we have over 8,000 passionate employees, 34 manufacturing sites, and more than 13,000 patents. In 2023, we achieved over €3.5 billion (30,800 crore) in sales and invested nearly €300 million (2,640 crore) in R&D. In India, our presence spans over 4,000 employees across all Merck sectors — Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Electronics. We operate three manufacturing sites, two central distribution centers, and advanced labs. Since 1891, we've been committed to driving innovation and growth in India. When Merck was founded in 1668, the Taj Mahal had just been completed a decade earlier. Today, India is not just a market for us; it's a crucial part of our journey towards advancing digital living. Our collaborations with local industries and academic institutions have led to significant advancements, showcasing our impact on the local market

How is Merck supporting India’s electronics sector, and what initiatives are in place to boost its semiconductor ambitions?
