IN INDIA, GIFTING has always been more than a simple exchange.

Unboxing The Gaps In India's Gifting Sector

It reflects tradition, emotion, and a sense of togetherness. From Diwali hampers and wedding trousseaus to milestone celebrations, every gift has carried meaning and sentiment. Over time, these practices have evolved, blending cultural richness with modern values that celebrate individuality and thoughtfulness.

This shift is now visible in the market. The Indian gifting industry is valued at $75.16 billion (Rs 6.25 lakh crore) in 2024 and expected to grow to $92.32 billion by 2030. Corporate gifting alone contributes around Rs 12,000 crore, about 16 per cent of the total market, and is expanding at a pace two to three times faster than consumer gifting.

(Source: TechSci, ChocoCraft, LinkedIn post by Bithin Ghosh, Research and Markets) Within this landscape, premium and luxury gifting represents less than 5 per cent of the total market. But the rise in demand for meaningful, personalised, and design-driven options signals a significant opportunity.

Much of the current gifting market is still led by general retail categories such as gadgets, apparel, home décor, and accessories. Specialist gifting brands occupy a smaller, fragmented space, often with individual shares of just 1 to 3 per cent.
