CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Advantage Assam 2.0 and the state's rise as India's investment gateway

Assam prepares for Advantage Assam 2.0, its premier investment summit, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma outlines his vision for the state's economic rise. From strategic infrastructure to landmark investments in semiconductors and fertilizers, he highlights Assam's growth trajectory, investor-friendly policies, and role as India's gateway to Southeast Asia.
The upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 is a major investment summit for the state. How do you see this event shaping Assam's long-term economic vision, and what are the key preparations underway?
Assam is a growing economy and our trajectory over the last decade reflects this growth. We registered a 12.5% growth over the past ten years and a remarkable 19% growth in 2023. This year, we are targeting a growth rate of around 15%. Assam has resolved many of its internal challenges, including law and order issues and militancy. With these resolved, we believe it is the right time to invite investors, share our success story and bring in investments that will further accelerate our growth.
Leading up to the summit, we have already secured two significant investments. The first is a semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility, which is already in progress. The second is a large fertilizer plant announced by the Government of India, with a capacity of 12.5 lakh metric tons. These projects indicate that investments are already flowing in and the summit will further showcase Assam's possibilities and potential to investors worldwide.
Assam has the strategic advantage of being the gateway to Southeast Asia. How are you leveraging this unique geographical position to attract business and investments?
