In Norseman, Western Australia, a mining company was facing a significant challenge: its process water pond, crucial for managing and containing waste from mineral processing, was blocked.

The miner quickly commissioned the services of GPC Environmental Services, who needed an advanced solution to clean the pond and made contact with KOR Equipment Solutions.

After consultation, KOR's Gerotto Lombrico remote-operated vehicle (ROV) was deployed. The solution proved to be a gamechanger, showcasing the power of robotic technology in handling complex industrial challenges.

A robust solution

The pond's problem turned out to be a thickener malfunction that had blocked a decant pipe, reducing the plant's water capacity to just 15 per cent.

With the mine depending on the pond's operation, finding a fast, safe and efficient cleaning method was critical.

However, the project presented multiple challenges, as traditional cleaning methods such as water cannons required large amounts of water, creating a sourcing issue. The site's extreme conditions added to the complexity, with high temperatures reaching 50°C, posing serious risks for manual labour.
