"Beekeeping enhances oilseed crop yield through improved pollination while increasing honey production"

While India has to import oilseeds due to low W production, a National level Seminar on 'Scientific Honey Bee keeping integrated with Oilseed Mission' has opened up new income opportunities with increased yield of oilseeds for farmers held at the 16th edition of Agrovision.

The seminar was hosted and supported by National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NIMSME), Hyderabad, under the Ministry of MSME.

Shreekant Sharma, Director, School of Entrepreneurship and Extension (SEE), NIMSME informed the audience about the importance of honey bees in cross-pollination in oil seed crops. He said that 75 per cent of food crops benefit from animal pollination and honey bees are the most effectively managed pollinators.
