PREPARING YOUR YACHT FOR SALE
Yachting Monthly UK
|Summer 2025
When it comes to selling a yacht, the secret to a swift and successful sale often lies in the smallest of details, writes Susannah Hart
-
While a yacht broker might handle the complexities of the listing and process for selling a boat, it's often the refit and repair professionals who ensure the vessel looks its best, functions flawlessly, and is ready to impress a buyer from the moment they step onboard. To offer advice and outline the key steps every boat owner should take to maximise value and minimise time on the market, we spoke to Paul Hardy (above), Refit & Service Manager at Ancasta Yacht Services.
WELL-ORDERED PAPERWORK
Paperwork is just as important as the paintwork when it comes to selling a yacht. Boat owners are strongly advised to ensure they have proof of ownership and valid title documents, as well as confirmation of VAT status and the original purchase invoice.
The builder's certificate should be to hand, along with full service and maintenance records. Any evidence of upgrades or refits, complete engine logs and hours, manuals for onboard systems and equipment, and current insurance documentation should all be gathered into a single, accessible file. It's not the most glamorous part of the sale process, but it is vital. A well-maintained vessel with a disorganised paper trail can be a red flag for serious buyers.

ALLURES HORIZON 47
Since 2003 Allures have been building yachts that don't sit neatly in one category or another. Rugged explorer yachts with aluminium hulls, the deck and superstructure are fibreglass and as such allow the boat to feel much less utilitarian than some of its all-metal counterparts. This fourth-generation model seeks to take a fresh look at what a blue-water cruising yachts is.

OVNI 490
Anyone who has followed the last two editions of the Vendée Globe, or even developments in the Class 40 fleet, will know it's now well understood that, if sailors have good protection on watch, they'll perform better as well as be more comfortable. Similar thinking is being applied to cruising yachts, though this can be complicated by a stronger emphasis on aesthetics.

J-BOATS J36
This is an evolution of the popular J/112e, with the deck layout, companionway and cockpit updated. It brings the boat into line with the larger J40 and J45 which have been adapted to have a wider appeal to cruisers as powerful, offshore-capable cruiser-racers.
