Senegal

Senegal is best known for the Paris Dakar rally. But it has much more to that. Our brief sojourn in this country with the TVS Apache mo-torcycles showed us some amazing sights and history. The photo on this page shows a Baobab tree, which is also the national symbol of the country. They have thick water storing trunks and have immense size and long lifespans often reaching thousands of years.

We started from 'Dakar Motos' TVS showroom in Dakar, Senegal where a few TVS and Apache riders gathered to meet us. 'Dakar Motos' have been a distributor for TVS in Senegal since 2012. After sharing some experiences we head out to the Independence Square or Place de l'Independance which is the most lively and iconic place in Dakar with gardens and fountains. Senegal is a francophone country since it was a French colony before it got independence on April 4th 1960. In fact Dakar was the capital of the West African French Empire.

The photo on this page shows a very important geographical landmark. The westernmost point of the African continent, Pointe des Almadies, located on the north western end of the Cap Vert peninsula near Dakar. 'Motard Anonyme' stands with his TVS Apache on one of the most iconic places in Africa!

Football in Senegal is big and it unites people unlike anything else. It's men's national team is called Teranga Lion and on match days the entire country transforms into something else. The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title is very prestigious and in 2002 Senegal stunned the world by defeating the defending champions, France 1-0. Today football is played in almost anywhere it can be, from parking lots to of course, stadiums. The photo is probably one of the most iconic photos we have ever taken. Senegalese people playing football against a sunset at the most westernmost point of Africa as the made in India TVS Apache stands testimony to the beauty of nature and man's harmony.
