The new engine concept from Ferrari is quite unique, though you may recognize the piston shape, so let's get into the nerdy details. The new engine has pill-shaped pistons, not to be confused with an oval, as these are rectangles with two semi-circles on either end. This particular shape is also known as stadium-shaped, obround or discorectangle (who says geometry is boring?). This shape, for a given engine displacement, means the pill-shaped cylinders can be stacked closer together than conventional cylindrical ones, thus shortening the engine.
