HOW TO CLEAN THE WATER TANK ON A USED CAMPERVAN
Q We bought a van conversion recently with an on-board water tank. We've been using water from the tap but it smells and tastes quite 'chemically'. Can we clean the tank? Andrew Collins
A Diamond Dave replies...
It's possible that at some point someone has inadvertently put diesel into the water tank. If that is the case, the only reliable solution would be to replace the entire water system.
Or perhaps the person who converted the van used the wrong type of pipe.
You could try descaling and cleaning the system with white vinegar; about two to 50 litres of water should work. Run it through to all taps and leave it for at least several hours (days would be better).
If this fails then the simplest solution might be to only use the on-board tank for washing and carry bottled water for drinking, cooking and cleaning teeth.

Inverter essentials
I've just read a rather sad story online of a German couple whose motorhome caught fire while they were using an air fryer via an inverter. Initially it was believed that the lithium batteries were the culprit, but I'm not sure that was the case. LiFePO4 battery chemistry, while still technically a lithium-ion variety, is much safer than the ones used for EV batteries. Many EV manufacturers are now switching to LiFePO4 because of this.
