The Vietnamese carmaker, founded only in 2017, has made its India debut with not one but two electric SUVs, the compact VF 6 and the larger VF 7.

Prices are aggressive, starting at ₹16.49 lakh for the VF 6 and ₹20.89 lakh for the VF 7, and the company clearly has ambitions of making a big first impression in what is fast becoming one of the most hotly contested automotive segments in the country.

THE COMPACT CONTENDER

The VF 6 is VinFast's entry point into India, and it takes aim at established EVs like the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6. Measuring 4,241mm in length, it sits firmly in the midsize SUV bracket, but clever design makes it look bigger than it is. Distinctive full-width LED DRLs, chunky plastic cladding, and 18-inch alloys give it plenty of visual presence.

Inside, the cabin is minimalist to the point of being radical. In fact, there isn't even a traditional instrument cluster. Instead, all functions are integrated into a large 12.9-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver, with a head-up display projecting essentials like speed and warnings. The layout may take some getting used to, but it's in keeping with a clean and minimalist philosophy.
