JK Tyre integrates in-tyre sensors for continuous, real-time operational monitoring in its embedded smart tyres range
As vehicle safety systems, digital diagnostics, and connected mobility converge to redefine the modern automotive landscape, tyres, the only point of contact between a vehicle and the road, are rapidly evolving from passive rubber components into active data-generating systems.
Reflecting this shift from aftermarket options to OEM-fits, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. is banking on first of its kind ‘Embedded Smart Tyres’ for the passenger vehicle segment. This marks an advancement in tyre engineering and connected-vehicle technology as a critical intelligence node within the vehicle ecosystem. According to Anshuman Singhania, Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries, the new offering reflects the culmination of nearly five years of work with sensor-based systems. “Earlier, the kit used to be retrofitted onto the tyre, but now it is built into the tyre itself,” he explained during the launch. “The convenience is immense because we no longer need to install the kit separately. The sensor is already embedded, and that is a major step forward for customers and for the industry.”
Unlike earlier sensor-based monitoring solutions that relied on externally mounted kits, JK Tyre integrates advanced sensors directly into the tyre's internal structure. This embedded system continuously monitors key metrics such as air pressure, temperature, and air leakage, parameters that directly influence vehicle stability, braking performance, handling characteristics, and overall safety.
