How to recognize when you need to call a vet

HAPPY HENS

Most of the time our hens are healthy and happy but sometimes they can appear poorly and not themselves. It’s important to recognise normal everyday healthy behaviour in your flock so that you know when one of them is unwell and needs assistance. One of the best times to spot a poorly hen is first thing in the morning when they are let out of their house: your hens should be bright-eyed with an upright posture with a healthy colour to the face, comb and wattles. Hens should be keen to get outside and not be hunched or unduly fluffed up.
