A father makes a winning comeback, debutants impress and seniors head to Hickstead
GRAHAM DUNKLEY “dusted off the cobwebs” and returned to the ring after 33 years to land the mountain and moorland (M&M) championship aboard his son Henry's novice large breeds winner, Highland pony Genesis Of Westown (Noah).
“Henry’s just turned 13 and it’s a big jump from a Welsh section B to a Highland built like a tractor,” said Graham, who last competed in the intermediates. “I've dusted off my boots and bought a new hat as my old Patey was no longer allowed.”
Noah has been with the Dunkley family for six months. He had been broken in by his previous owner, Abigail Gresty who tragically lost her life last summer.
“Abbey taught Henry. She'd owned Noah since a yearling and knew we'd always liked him, so she wanted Henry to have him when she moved to Australia, which was her plan.
“He's a really lovely boy - like a big dog. I’m just running him this year so he can see the world; Henry will take over the reins next year.”
Team Jinks were also in the ribbons, taking three tricolours.
