The heartbroken actor vows to support Halyna’s husband and son

Hollywood is in a state of shock after actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot a cinematographer dead on the set of his movie Rust.

Young mum Halyna Hutchins was a 42-year-old camerawoman described by peers as a “rising star”.

“She was exactly the type of person you wanted on your film,” one industry insider tells Woman’s Day. “She was one of a kind and will be so badly missed.”

Since the tragedy, Alec, 63, has been seen supporting Halyna’s husband Matthew, 38, and nine-year-old son Andros – who was so traumatised by his mum’s passing that he was unable to speak for two days.

“Alec is there for them, whatever they need,” a source reveals.

“He is absolutely distraught.”

The shocking events unfolded on October 21, when Alec – who is starring in and producing the movie – was rehearsing a gun draw with an antique revolver, pointing it in the direction of the camera, which wasn’t rolling.

Despite the assistant director Dave Halls calling out that the gun was “cold” – set speak for unloaded and safe – before handing it to Alec, the weapon discharged and fatally shot Halyna in the chest, also injuring director Joel Souza, 48, who was standing behind her.

Early investigations appear to blame Rust’s head armored Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 24, and investigators’ initial findings, presented last Thursday, say they believe Alec was handed a gun loaded with a live round.

During the press conference, Santa Fe County Mendoza noted there was “some complacency” on the Rust set but district attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies added that it was too early to say whether criminal charges would be brought.
