Patience Is Key As Danni Grabs Opening Spot
The Cricket Paper
|March 16,2018
DANNI Wyatt has been in the England set-up since she was 18 and after a productive winter, the Sussex opener insists she has finally found her place.
Now 26, Wyatt was a standout performer for England in the T20 part of the Ashes series, scoring a half-century and a hundred across the three games.
Starting down the order, Wyatt convinced coach Mark Robinson that she deserved a spot at the top of the innings, and having taken that chance, she has no intention of letting it slip in England’s Tri-Series clash with India and the Australians.
She said: “I had a meeting with Mark Robinson before the Ashes in Brisbane where we went out for a coffee and he asked me where I wanted to bat in the T20 team and straight away I said I wanted to open. It’s the best place to bat in T20. I’ve done it before and it probably didn’t go as well as I wanted it to.
“I still batted at about six in the first T20 in Sydney and got 50 off not many balls so Mark then put me opening in the second T20 when I got 20 and then I got the century during the last game.
