In the midst of India’s startling defeat to New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington, Ross Taylor became a side note and an Asterix. However, while New Zealand will continue to cel-ebrate their towering hero, Taylor might have another Asterix against his name by the end of his career, for being one amongst a handful of players with such distinction to their name.

New Zealand’s win over India by a comprehensive ten-wicket margin was not only New Zealand’s 100 Test win but also, it marked the 100th Test that Taylor has appeared in. It was not a light statistic given that Taylor had recently in the course of same India’s tour of New Zealand completed 100 Twenty20 internationals appearances. By that token and having already featured in over 200 one day internationals for this country thus far, Taylor was in esteemed company in New Zealand for Test cricket alone, having played in over 100 Tests like his predecessors, Stephen Fleming, Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum.
