Tour de France 1934

Frenchman René Vietto pauses for refreshment at the top of the Col du Tourmalet on stage 18 of the 1934 Tour, swamped by fans and an entourage of policemen and race vehicles.

Having already climbed the Aubisque, Vietto was first to the top of the Tourmalet and would go on to win the stage in Pau and, five days later, the mountains classification in Paris (there were 23 stages that year). The overall winner was Antonin Magne.
